Trichomes
Trichomes
Trichomes are small structures found on the surface of the cannabis plant. They are particularly visible on the flowers, where some trichomes appear as small crystal-like glands and play a central role in the production of resin, cannabinoids, and terpenes.
Trichomes on the cannabis plant
The cannabis plant's trichomes are found especially on and around the flowers, but can also occur on other parts of the plant. Some types consist of a small stalk with a glandular head and can collectively give the flower the frosted or crystalline appearance often associated with cannabis.
A large portion of the plant's resin is produced and accumulated in the trichome glands. This resin contains, among other things, cannabinoids such as CBD and THCA, as well as terpenes that contribute to the plant's aromatic profile.
Trichomes are also significant for various cannabis products. In the production of, for example, hash, the plant's resin-rich trichomes are separated and collected, while on dried flowers, they can still be seen on the surface of the flower.
